  • Revell Monogram Ford Lotus Cortina

This car is out in October.

The signals are that pre-orders in Euroland might exceed supply. Its going to be close. I don't believe this car will interest the USA even though in its heyday it outhandled its cousin the Ford Mustang!

    Cheers

I think you should stop trying to tell the North Americans what they do and do not like. The Cortina is one of my all time favourite cars, and I will definitely be buying them in 1/32 scale.

      Why is that then?

I like the model for sentimental reasons because it reminds me of my first slot car (Airfix version). Still got the original Vauxhall. Ain't got the Ford although I did make a kit version recently produced from the original Airfix molds.

If folk aren't interested in these then there is always the Revell Monogram Mustang due in December.

Revell Monogram can't really lose with either release can they?

A crapload of people owned-owned/raced these cars
        in North America
        I owned the next generation(1970) of this car(2 door0
        My wife(1972) cortina(2 door)
My friend owned one (1966) 2 door of these for many years, till it was distroyed in an accident
So i think that Mr Moped statement is wrong
I beleve that this will be a VERY BIG seller over here as well!!!!!!!!!

Why? I don't know... I love small sedans, the Cortina is one of the best looking small sedans, simple and elegant. And successful on the track too.

I also like Mk1 Escorts and Capri's, despite the fact that they were never available over here.

And all of this despite my Chevy upbringing.

You will like this one then fitted with a 6.5 litre Chevy V8:-

Well not really. I'd much rather that car was running a Lotus Twin Cam unit, but to each his own I guess...

Not that I'm against hotrodding...but putting a Chevy motor in a Ford is just wrong...

Some photos from a recent hot rod show

Another interesting bit of trivia for slot car fans from Australia.

Bob Jane raced the Lotus Cortina in 1964.

                Bet you knew that anyway!

                Cheers

I have one of those MRRC repops as well, though I've never gotten around to finishing that. Was supposed to be a summer project this year...

Ooo .. that looks sweet ... another must have added to my rapidly growing list :eek

I owned the basic 1200cc version of this, it was my first RL car, I was 18 and it was older than me !

Yeah, how come you never hear of a Vauxhall Owner's Club over here in North America?

Remember the Envoy? Sold for $1,499 Cdn back in 1970 - what a gem!

They just don't make cars like that any more. :eek

Sorry Moped I don't believe for a second that there be a shortage of these cars. They won't sell that well here. Fewer people know what a Cortina is than a Porsche 550 and it seems as though there are plenty 550's to be had here in the US market.

The same "these will sell out quickly" phrase was thrown around by many about the MC12, they are awash in many outlets on the internet and in hobby shops that I've seen from New York to Tennessee.

True. For some reason, the Brits always seem to omit this from the sterling comps pedigree of the Austin Seven.
