  • The Horror, I mean the fun begins. 24 hours of Port Angeles

In 8 hours the 24 hours of Port Angeles begins. It is a shame that Milo and Paul could not be here, but I know they will make it to the November race. Who will win. Iron men (and women) with plastic cars on a wooden track will be tested in a 24 hour orgy of racing. I will try to post the standings every 2 hours through the night and into tomorrow. May the slot car gods have mercy on us.

I have good news, but no web cam.

8 lane, 80' American Windsor track, 4 lane Scalextric 1/32 track.

          September 16-17, 2005

Old Weird Herald has recoverred from the wings and glue fog of the USRA Wing Car Nats, and I'm here sharing Fred's connection at Port Angeles Slot Car Raceway in beautiful downtown Port Angeles Washington.

They are racing Slot-It 1/32 scale cars on the 8 lane 80' American Raceways Yellow Windsor Track. The cars are equipped with lights and night racing will be raced in the dark (I'm typing in the dark now!).

While I wasn't able to bring an infra red night vision webcam, I will be providing OWH's almost famous 1/32 scale edition of OWH's "Alomost Live" coverage of the event.

I've set up a photo gallery and will post the link as soon as I get some pics uploaded, and will be posting photos throughout the 24 hour event.

The racers are showing up and getting aquainted or reaquainted and getting in some testing and practice before we start tech in an hour or 2.

This event should be a lot of fun, and I'm sure we'll all get our chance for some long stints of driving over the next 24 hours.

Alan just said something about getting some Mexican food - so I'll be back to post pics soon!!!

Alan has a habit of that. And a good thing too, because that's a pretty good Mexican restaurant around the corner there.

Here's the link to the Photo Gallery for the 24 Hours of Port Angeles:

24 Hours of Port Angeles Photo Gallery

The Mexican food was VERY good!!!

A little hole in the wall Mexican Restaraunt called "Fiesta Jalisko". It was packed... and for good reason. We'll be back Sat night after the race!

Just what we need.... everyone chow down on plateloads of beans - just prior to being cooped up together for 24 hours.
              :x

              Buuuuuuuurrrrrp!

I better start getting some pics of the cars as they get teched in.....

Yeah, good mexican food - lovely decor, too.

Keep the updates coming. A Canadian win is of course anticipated.

We will be thinking of you guys. Even when we're sleeping later ...

You just have to post pictures ... in the thread or in the gallery ...

Did they qualify in the dark, or did you keep the lights on for that?

Qualifying was with the lights on - then lights went out for the start of the race. All racing now will be under natural light.

I'll experiment with some night shots - but haven't had much success so far. Flash pictures would not only not capture the true feel - but would not go over so well with the drivers either! :eek

Gotta be tough starting in the dark like that.

                            What happened to Team U-Haul?

Several teams have already had trips to the pits with various problems. It involved some groping around and making way to the pit room, which does have lights on, fortuantely, behind closed doors.
