  • My Plan (Will this work?)

I like the versatility of analog with being able to use Fly, Carrera, Scalextric, etc..but I also like the toys involved in digital.

I know that SCX digital is proprietary, so that rules it out. I decided to start off with using Scalextric Analog track (also a few SCX analog pieces) to run all of the great analog stuff. Eventually I would buy the Scalextric digital module to plug in so I can run Scalex digital cars on the same track without having to switch out anything but the module. With this setup, I could run the following

    Analog:
    SCX, Scalextric, Fly, etc

    Digital
Scalextric, use a PC as scoring, fuel management, etc.

Am I correct in these assumptions?

I believe that is correct, I also believe that you can pop a Scaley digital chip, in most analog cars if you can find the space.

All Pioneer's new cars are built specifically to accept the Scaley Digi chip

One thing to watch out for is the depth of the slot of your older SCX track. It may be more shallow than the newer track you're running, so a car with a deep guide can be tooling along just fine, then *wham*.

Also, for digital, you need to add more than just the powerbase, ie, lane changers, etc. Digital isn't much fun if you can't change lanes, so you have to switch out more than just the powerbase. So if you have 8 lane changers, those have to be swapped out, too.

Okay, cool so other than some minor details my work is done and time to start saving money. I don't have much SCX track in 32, I just have the tri-oval, but those turns are really nice...don't wanna lose them.

          Wise decision, IMO...

          Hi Careos,

IMO, the most important decision is already taken: 1/32 is a good choice! Lots of cars, with lots of detail = lots of fun!

Although I know very little about digital tracks & racing, I'm pretty sure you won't regret the decision to start off with analog stuff and then, if you so decide, going digital. Well, that's just my take on things...

Cheers and good luck with your new hobby!

The new Scalextric power unit coming out in a few months will let you switch between analog and digital so you'll just have to worry about the cross overs, although you are supposed to be able to use the c7006 or c7005 chip to upgrade any brand slot car to a scalextric digital compatible car (provided you can get the chip to fit)
