  • Best tyres for Scalextric track

Hi, I guess I am about to open up a can of worms here, but tyres do guys consider work best on Scalextric Sport and Classic plastic tracks?

Cars used are Scalextric Dallara in open wheeler racers, Ninco Megane and DTM Mercedes in saloons and NSR Mosler and Corvette and MRSlotcar Mazda 787B on Open class GT races.

No magnets are allowed in any class but weight may be added to the chassis.

SuperTires (silicone, not the urethanes) are the hands down winner on my Sport track...and I've tested many!
But you must have a clean track.

Neither series that I run with allows Silicone tires. I can tell you that on Non Mag and Magnet alike the Paul Gauge and Yellow Dog Urethanes both work well as does Slot it N 22 rubber and NSR Ultra Grips. I have run silicone tires a couple of times and unless the track is completely clean you will need to clean the tires every five to ten laps. Also you can not run Silicone tires against urethane or rubber tires.

Anything sufficiently soft will run well once you've run it for a while.
If you choose silicone, then the track must be kept clean, and don't bother running other kinds of tires.
If you choose urethane, they should have pretty good grip in general, but some compounds can be so soft that the cars roll too easily due to excessive grip.
If you go with rubber, then the hardness will matter as much as for urethane, except the grip will also get better over time as the rubber slowly transfers to the track surface.
Also, I'm sure you know that classic has more grip/texture than sport, so tires that work well on one don't always work well, or the same way, on the other.

My personal preferences these days are urthane, nsr, and slot.it F22 on Sport track. Tons of grip, great for magless racing.

What he said. If silicones are not allowed I have found Paul Gage urethanes are next best.

                I will second this.

I use SUPERTIRES on a plastic track.
They work great and seem to last forever.

My track is Scalextric sport with no magnets or silicone allowed.
I have tried all the above and I prefer NSR Super Grips. In combination with lighter fluid I have had my fastest laps. All of the above are better than the stock tires that come with a car.

The P6 compound may come on Slot.it's and is very decent.
                    Rubber wears faster than urethane.

Paul Gage also, as you can find easily all size and Paul is a great guy.

They also are very durable, much more than rubber tires.

If Urethanes are not to be choosen, i'll take Slot-it F22 for scalex Classic and F-15 for Sport, or the same shores with BRM brand.

Thanks gents, so far I have found that the Slot.it F22 works well and also the P6, (although I think this is discontinued?), but the best tyres so far have been NSR Ultragrips although I haven't tried silicons or urethane a of any description just yet as most clubs here don't allow them so I'm sticking with rubber.
