I'm starting to think this whole "carrera club" is a big bait n' switch racket - The Scalextric guys tried to warn me about that - something about "dastardly Carrera scoundrels" .....

My 1:1 scale cars have taken over the garage, along with cardboard boxes that I swear have started breeding. As for my wife, I've actually convinced her Slot Cars are a good thing, to the extent shes requested the pink and black charger for herself. "look honey, I got all these cool cars just for you".....MUHAAAAA....

I use my 2 yr old son as my excuse....he loves to run the cars. I started working on the scenery tonight which got me the evil wife eye roll.

                Let's see......
                1. Right before I painted my track I bought a couple straight pieces and slipped 'em in my inventory unnoticed.
                2. Considered a load-bearing wall in our new house for about 6 seconds until I was told it was load-bearing by my architect pal. Negotiated with my wife for the entire attic instead.
                3. Searching German Ebay? Ja, klar! Search Tip: Carrerabahn Fahrzeuge. I'm not even going to mention the labyrinth that is Schwarzes Brett....

We're all one big happy, slightly drunk, slightly dysfunctional group of the kind of uncle who says "pull my finger" at the Thanksgiving dinner table. We're certainly not better than our Scaley brethren. Just bigger....and wider.

I gotta add one to the list [and this one's for Dave]:
                • If you've ever set up your permanent table and blocked-in your wife's favorite piece of furniture, you've arrived.

My biggest fear in life is that I'll die and my wife will sell my Carrera collection... and find out how much they really cost.

P.S. Dave's corner cabinet isn't really "blocked off"... it's very simple... you just have to crawl under the table and if you need something on an upper shelf, go in from the bottom and remove lower shelves as needed. Simple, right?

I once asked a retailer to hold a car I wanted, until I could send him a money order (purchased with cash) for an SCX MGA. The package was delivered to my work address. The case never again saw the light of day and the little MG slid discretely into a pocket in my briefcase. Now it is stabled next the the white and red MGA, and just looks like it is supposed to be there. Nothing to see here!

Sounds like a well executed clandestine operation. Bravo!

SO, I have a solution for you, and admittedly, its a bit of a sacrifice on my part, but hey - all for the hobby. Here's what you do - go ahead and write me into your will as the sole beneficiary where your collection is concerned, a "curator" if you will, and that way if anything should happen to you, your wife will never know!

In the interests of full disclosure, I'm legally obligated to mention that the chances of "something happening to you" do go up by a few percentage points, immediately following my appointment as beneficiary and curator - but I wouldn't worry about a trivial 30% increase.

                          Allan.

Wouldn't that be better than her selling them for what you told her you paid for them?

I do not recall being this kind. Thanks for cleaning up the language.
