This project was put on hold due to the fact we decided to swap efforts to the newly released Generation II Scorpius car decoder. During that project we experienced delays due to covid supply chain and other issues. Now that has been completed and released to market I'm happy to announce that I am reigniting the MPD project, acronym for Multi Purpose Decoder. This new decoder can operate as a car decoder, lane change electronics decoder, lap counter and location detector for the Scorpius, Carrera, Scalextric and SCX brands. This thread will concentrate on how the MPD can be utilised for Hornby Scalextric Sports Digital users. We plan to have this to market by June 2023.
Firstly a specification list:
Plug and play car decoders and track electronics. No soldering required.
Multi purpose: Can be used as car decoder, lane changer (except SCX), lapcounter or location detector.
Multi brand compatible: Can be used for mulitple purposes on Scorpius, Scalextric, Carrera and SCX brands.
Small 22.00x13.30mm size.
Thin. Only 1.7mm

Uses Nordics advanced nRF 52832 microprocessor, 6x6mm.
Dual radio transceiver. RF and Bluetooth compatible.

Wireless updates via PC or app.
Photo transistor input channels x 2, each channel with onboard mounted 3mm dia. photo transistor (sensor) for DPR hatch use (Scalextric and Pioneer cars only) and another photo transistor mounted on 75mm flylead. Two photo transistor sensors will enable Lane Brain functions like anti collision and best line racing.

Native utilises OEM powerbase and controllers. Data is sent from the powerbase via track rails. It utilises Scalextric protocols only.
Nitrous uses direct controller to car comms using Scorpius controller and MPD Nitrous car decoder.

The Arc Pro is the current release since 2017. Designed for entry level users. It features basic wireless controllers and two apps are available for race management. Brakes are non adjustable and the throttle is 64 steps. There is no light control.
The Scorpius upgrade offers a far superior 100% plug and play controller, car decoder, lapcounter and location detector for the serious Scalextric digital enthusiast. The system is compatible to the Scorpius Race Management System by using the Scorpius dongle and Windows laptop.
