  • SCI announce we have agreed to go into Partnership with HO RacePro

Great news to announce today, that ScaleRacing and SCI have agreed to partner Ed Bianchi to help grow the HO market here on SCI.

I am proud to have Ed onboard here to help promote the Hobby, sell his product and help support the Hobby he and I love.

We welcome others to join Ed in supporting SCI at a time when so many are searching for information on this fantastic Hobby, all scales.
With real Hobby Stores vanishing and with that the support they gave in their Community we need to help users with product and knowledge to not just keep the Hobby alive.
To support and grow it as we move into the next decade.

Welcome Ed Bianchi aka HO RacePro.

    Excellent news!

Ed brings a lot of knowledge and experience to this site, so it's great to know that we'll be able to enjoy his support going on from here.

We expect to sign on other Partners in HO and other scales to help promote the Hobby. Also advertisers to help keep SCI online for free to private members.

Ed is the first to get involved, and I for one deeply appreciate his support.

To The Denizens of the SCI Universe,

I, Ed Bianchi, am honored to do my bit to help keep the Slotcar Illustrated website and its active community in business.

Alan has made that possible by establishing the new SCI Partners program. By becoming a Partner I can use my posts to promote my HO RacePro products on the SCI website, and in turn help support that service by contributing a percentage of whatever sales I get from those promotions.

I consider this a fair way to help support SCI. My annual sales have (sadly!) been too small and too variable to support a formal advertising budget. Rather than pay upfront for advertising I find it far more reasonable to contribute a percentage of my sales to support the resource that made those sales possible.

Alan called me this afternoon, and we discussed our mutual interests. (A lot! We talked for a half-hour, about all aspects of the slotting world, and would have talked much longer except I had to make dinner.)

I suggested the Partner program to Alan, and we quickly reached agreement.

So, here is the deal. Any of the many talented people in the SCI community who have developed something for our hobby that others might like to buy, but who aren't prepared to mass produce -- resin-cast bodies, printed chassis, gears, tires, controllers -- even Slide GuidesTM -- can enroll in the Partners program. If you promise to contribute a percentage of your sales, Alan will let you promote your products on SCI.

As someone who has operated a "cottage industry" for (gasp!) almost 30 years, my best advertising has always been "word of mouth". Rather than shilling my products through maybe-not-entirely-clever copy and graphics, I have chosen the much more enjoyable method of sharing as much knowledge and wisdom as I have been able to scrape up during a lifetime in the hobby. (I occasionally annoy people too. That just happens. If you have a presence online and don't annoy anyone you probably aren't breathing.)

SCI is where I have been doing that in recent years. I plan to keep it up.

And I plan to help keep SCI online. I can't annoy any of my favorite slotheads if SCI and its community goes away.

              Ed Bianchi

                Alan,

You've probably already thought of this. The Partners program should have its own forum. Having it as a sticky thread inside the HO forum made for a quick launch, but there are many opportunities for Partners beyond HO. We'll need a place to congregate, swap lies and share virtual adult beverages.

Point of fact, I have been thoroughly wrapped up all year in developing 3D printed parts and accessories for 1/32nd scale, one of which I am ready to market. (Here we go! The Partners program offers HO RacePro the opportunity to metastasize into other scales! But that will require a new name. Hmmm...)

I believe there must be a number, maybe dozens of SCI members who'd like to try their hand at commercializing their inventions and crafts. I'd love to see this program gather steam and take off!

A new name? Might I be so bold as to suggest AllRacePro?

I need to revamp the Buy Sell section on SCI maybe sales should be promoted there. With a used section for private Members and a section for SCI supporting Manufacturers who sell direct.

This will evolve over time, and as we watch the demise of most physical Stores in this Industry and Hobby I hope the Partner program can become both a place to promote small business and nurture the Hobby all scales.

My experience has always been that people miss stickies and sub-forums, and they end up harming exposure.

I think that with Ed using his expertise in other scales, There should be a section where all of that can be discussed.
If that becomes the SCI Partners marketplace, then that's fine.
Ed is still gonna post in the HO section, where his biggest fans are.

The community of SCI Partners will naturally post to the forums where they hope to find customers. That just makes sense. But they should also have a "campfire" forum to hold discussions that only they will be interested in. Somewhere the old dogs (woof) can share their thoughts, methods and experience with the young pups. And all the SCI Partners can get up to speed with the latest developments that will affect their efforts at developing their online business.

I'm beginning to love that word "community".

Why not dump the petrified "Panjo Market Place" for a "Community Market Place"
