  • Best Lexan Body

    With racing season fast approaching, I was wondering what the general consensus was on the "best handling" lexan body currently available. If it were easy to paint and mount, that would be a plus, but I'm guessing those qualities are mutually exclusive....
    Any and all opinions, based on science or experience, are welcome.

    The HOST Snark Too always ran well for me.

    Others swear by a 917.

    Go for as low as possible with minimal overhangs

      I doubt that there would be a lot of people that like the same body. The body that you would put on a high downforce HO car would not be as critical as it would be with a larger scale car. I use a HOST Nissan NPT body on several of my cars. HOST has paint masks available for their bodies and those will make your life much easier. Since the bodies are inexpensive it is a good idea to order extra ones.

        Host bodies and masks are great. For body posts I like threaded, drill chassis hole and tap thread. Aluminum posts are fixed while plastic can be adjusted for width as desired.
        I like the plastic, thread into empty chassis motor box and simply cut off excessive length from inside.

          I was debating getting the Snark. Couldn't get past the name. I've got a couple of NPTs. The 917 is kinda ubiquitous but probably for a reason. I'll have to try one (meaning 2 or 3) My reflexive choice was the Lola T70 MkIIIb. I also got a couple Ford GT Mk IVs, Ferrari 512Ms, and Porsche GT3s. Just 'cause I think they're neat. Don't know if any one of them will work any better than another...Most of my new chassis have the body posts molded in. I pass them through my tech block to ascertain proper width.

            I always loved the Madd (#132) XJR 10/12 Jaguar. With that nose you could sweep the track.

              That was the whole point when the MaDD Shark body was created in the late 80s. HOST created the Snark Too several years later in response to the MaDD body. We were just having fun with the rulebook. From looking at the MaDD Snark it was obvious that it was not modeled after a real car. Naming it after an Alice in Wonderland character was icing on the cake.

              I was fully expecting the car to be DQed when we debuted it at the HOPRA nats. I about fainted when the HOPRA National Director said that it was OK because a real car could be made to look like it. Talk about turning the rule 180 degrees. Before the Snark you could be DQed for opening the rear window on a Parma 917K body. After the Snark everything was fair game.

                I figured it was something like that. But I didn't know the rest of the story. Thanks for the info. Will there be a Snark III? It could be called the Smirk! (rimshot)

                  HOST has a great selection of bodies and masks. I like the the Ford C-100, the Howmet Turbine, and the Schkee Can-Am. I like a body that mounts low and has as little rear overhang as possible. My in-line cars are BSRT, Viper, and Wizzard Fusions.
