It's amazing that these are even needed...

The newer TOMY AFX track does not have track connections that lock each track joint into place permanently. By using these track clips they lock each track connection into place.
And of course this makes for tighter more precise track layout.
This works for me and the way that I put my track together. And plus when I completed my layout I didn't have any dead spots.

No, I compleTely agree. The clips are ablosuTely neccesary, buT noT wiTh oTher brands of Track. (T is sTuck on caps)
