    Yes they are. wow. they were pulling times close to my wizzard chassis jets and aurora, out of the box. A local to me racer bought three, threw on a HEMP racing body (a Uracco) and we had a quick rundown roundrobin 4 minutes each lane on a 3 lane door sized track. light oil and off we went. they need a little more coast, and that will happen with some laps and laping gears, But still these are great. They aren't a fray car. But if you want to run something almost as fast, get an IROC set.

      I got some tire testing with my OS3 TFX car today. I had a Vonco Porsche Carrera GT Fray style body on the chassis. The Lamborghini body that I used for my initial testing actually works better with the car.
      The stock tires are perfectly satisfactory for casual running, but on my track they tend to go off very quickly. I can do a couple of quick laps before the car starts to slide a lot. Before I begin tire testing I wipe the track down with a special dusting cloth, then run a magnet car with sponge tires with a little traction compound on them for about 25 laps, then another car with slip on silicone tires until the grip does not change much as the laps pile up. I run a couple of air purifiers while the testing is going on. I used the tire cleaner that Ed Bianchi makes.
      With the stock 0.352” OD tires I was able to get down to 5.783 seconds on my ~50 foot MaxTrax road course, but within five laps the car was sliding a lot. It became difficult to do a lap where the car did not slide out enough to lose time and the lap times after that were over 6 seconds. At the limit the car would spin out.
      With 344RF tires (0.354” mounted OD) the best lap time was 5.642 seconds and the drop off as the laps piled up was only one or two tenths of a second. There were few spinouts those tires. With 344RSE tires the best time was 5.716 seconds, that was a surprise because they are usually good for another 0.1 to 0.2 seconds less than regular silicone slip-on tires. The car did not get loose as the laps went by, but the front end would come out of the slot at the limit. With 340RF tires (0.350” mounted diameter) the best lap time was 5.675 seconds, as with the other aftermarket tires the lap times did not fall off by much and the car was only slightly loose at the limit. With 340RSE tires the best lap time was 5.621, the times did not increase by much after 30 laps or so and there was not the front end understeer problem that I got with the 344RSE tires. I am guessing that the car has a smidge more magnetic downforce with the 0.004” smaller diameter tires. That would tend to increase cornering speeds while the top speed would go down slightly.
      Note that the aftermarket tires were a little loose on the stock wheels and those wheels were a little too narrow for the tires. A fanatic would probably want to switch to the appropriate CNC machined double flange wheels.
      Finally, I finished up with the stock tires, the lap times did not change from what they were at the beginning of the test session.
      If the stock tires had been able to maintain their best lap time the difference would seem to be slight, but it would in fact be significant to a hardcore racer. During a 12 minute race the stock tires would do 124.5 laps and the best (at least for me) aftermarket tires would be good for 128.09 laps, a 3.5 lap advantage.
      Note that my track favors cars with a lot of top speed and it has few joints to upset a car. On a twisty track, and especially if it was a little bumpy the SE tires would probably have a greater advantage.

        Here is an update on the TFX cars from Jerry Schmoyer:

        OS3 Customers,
        It has been a very busy few months for us here. We are finally able to start shipping out orders within a week of receipt, sometimes even the same day. Due to my main job, there will still be times where I am gone for the week and orders may take a week or two to ship. Those instances do not happen very often.

        After almost a year of testing, we finally have the armatures performing like we want. Unfortunately, we are not receiving them in enough quantity to satisfy our demands. We were hoping to get some 20 ohm armatures with our next shipment, as they have become very popular, but they are not coming. Since our initial quote, we have added numerous processes to the production of the armatures. The addition of these processes, combined with the major jump in the value of copper and the fact that Air Freight is the only viable shipping option at this time, our price for the armatures has nearly doubled our initial quote. This increase, along with the global 11% increase in the price of most items, including our plastic and axles, we are forced to raise the price of the TFX chassis to $29.95. For those who have been ordering many TFX at a time we will be offering one Free TFX for every 10 ordered. The free TFX will be of our choice but will be similar to those in the order. This will effectively keep the price at $27 ea. for those customers.

        With the introduction of the 5.5 ohm armature into our inventory we are also adding an 11T brass gear to the TFX Upgrade page. This gear meshes perfectly with our plastic gears and can provide a more solid grip on the armature shaft for heavy torque/high downforce drag racing. This gear may or may not be required depending on the TFX's setup. It is not required for stock TFX operation and has also shown to be unnecessary for TFX's running Black Dragon magnets.

        While we can't offer the 20 ohm armature for sale at this time, we do have a small amount of the other 4 values available that we will be offering for sale. We will be limiting the sale quantity to 10 total arms per week. There is no quantity discount on armatures at this time. Our Cart will not allow us to limit the quantities but we will reduce any orders over the limit to 10. Again, quantities are very limited, so we suggest ordering soon before they sell out. We will NOT be offering any 5.5, 14.5, or 18 ohm armatures in our Ready-to-Run cars at this time.


        In addition to our Typhoon Motors we have unwrapped virgin blanks available. These are intended for the drag racers and others who wish to wrap their own motors. Each armature blank comes with a brand new commutator. No need to unwrap good motors, these are as good as it gets for motor winders.

        Our controllers have also suffered from worldwide events, preventing us from stocking all the parts required to make them. Currently, stock is not expected until the Summer/Fall timeframe, 2022. There is hope that a small amount may become available from a source in the next few weeks. If this works out, all controllers will go back into full production. As our current parts inventory stands, we are only accepting waiting list orders, via email, for the HO ALL Pro and HO ALL Pro Elite controllers (Please include Handle and Wire color with your request). We do have a waiting list for HO Lite controllers but will not be making any more of them until the stock situation works itself out.

          HOCOC will be running a special demonstration team race for TFX cars at its next event. The cars would be in Fray Lite trim with Fairgrounds style bodies and have 19 tooth crown gears. My own testing indicates that a weighted front end is not needed with these cars, except possibly on a bumpy conventional plastic track. I am going to use a nearly stock car, I switched to double flanged CNC wheels and Silver Edition Super Tires. I added spacers to the stock front axle to widen the front track. The car is not quite as wide as Fray rules allow. The body is a Dash Olds 442.
          We will have to decide if we are going to run TFX cars in one of our regular classes or possibly run them in a class of their own.

            The TFX is an extremely high quality chassis but is geared towards routed tracks having very little ground clearance. I find that the chassis gets hung up a lot on the track joints of my AFX track. It would be great if One Stop Slot Shop would come out with a plastic track version of the chassis which has larger wheels and tires for more ground clearance.
