I'm close to finishing the room build out and can finally start on construction of my track. I know the size of my table (5'x10"), but what height should it be? I read another track builder who started at 30", but later lowered it to 20", He said it provided better viewing for thee drivers and made marshalling easier. 20" seems low to me. What is your track height, and would you lower/raise it if you were starting over? I'm not going to be hosting serious race events. It will be 4 lane scenic track with some occasional fun races for friends and neighbors.

I expect that most tables are 30 inches high, that is fine if you are standing up. I wanted to use regular height stools with my track, so it is 24 inches high. The lower table makes it easier to reach across the track.
It would be difficult to reach across a 5 foot wide table, even if the legs were short. Other factors may need to be considered. If small children would be using the track you would not want to have a tall table. Some people like to store things under their table, you might want to have enough clearance for bulky items.

I just matched the typical height of a kitchen table. That is the table itself, the track and any elevation changes are above that. 20200604_123046.jpg

I have a Carrera track set up on the basement floor. I was going to build a table but shortages during the pandemic nixed that.
To be honest, I rather like the track low like it is. I have two Craftsman mechanic’s stools with rollers for driving thrones. From those, one can look down on the entire track for a very nice vantage point.
I’m thinking 12” would make a nice height.

Before I got my MaxTrax I has some Model Motoring track on the basement floor, because the track could not be fastened down I usually had to fuss with some of the joints before I could run my cars. Reaching a car that had come off often meant stepping carefully between parts of the track. Having the track on or close to the floor would mean sacrificing some possible storage space. If you have pets that are free to wander around the house you might be better off if the track was off of the floor.

My table height is 40”. Definitely too tall. If I did it over, I would go with 30”.
But, as someone suggested, I can store a lot of stuff under there. And I do. I put casters on a piece of mdf and attached a rope handle, so when I want a tub I just roll them out,
