BRM (and TTS) in 1/24 and Revoslot in 1/32 are my current favourite slot cars. They are such a joy to drive, they run well out of the box and even better with a little tuning. They look stunning. They are great value and a blast to race. The best part of racing them is you don't have to do any modifications - everyone can buy a car do the standard tuning and have a competitive car to race. Sure some are quicker than others due to factors like body height COG etc - but that just makes it even more fun to tune that car up and get it competitive against the more fancied car. My Fiat Abarth is one of the quicker cars I own a tad more challenging to race but surprisingly quick and it looks grand on the track.

The original BRM cars were all great, but they didn't have a clear coat, so the pad printing could (would) wear off.

Are the new cars overcoated with a clear finish to prevent this wear?

Cars that are tampo printed are clear coated. However some cars are at least partial decals. Decals are not clear coated, due to problems with reaction between clear coat and decals.
You could try the less agressive Future or other Floor Coverings.

I can not give an exact list of what cars are clear coated. I haveasked.

The Trans Ams are clear coated.
