I took a bunch of slot car pictures over the holidays and this one was one of my favorites & thought I'd share.

        I like that scenery

It looks like Appalacian mountainside so I'd be careful going off there. That would certainly get my vote for a calendar page.

I have both of them (thanks Dave K) and they are so simple to set up. Pull the front magnet out and true up the rear tires and they go great.

I have both, they're easily as good looking as the Fly classics imo. The front are a shade high, but I took off almost 1/16" on the body posts without other changes and that helps a lot. Beautiful cars, and drive well with little work.

I'm hoping for Carrera 1/32 Ferrari 512's for companions, myself. Otherwise, it's fix up a couple of Fly's to keep up with these.

I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has tuned these Carrera 917's to run on wood and how their handling (and lap times) compare to a Fly 917 tuned for wood. Also, would be interested in the weight of a stock (analogue) Carrera 917.

                Thanks in advance, eh!

                  Hi Tom

I love my Fly 917 and it is very slightly modified, it has a new guide and a solid front axle. The car has the original gearing and motor with a small amount of weight added. Original wheels are fitted with urethane tyres. It runs with my eyes closed a 4.701 on my wood track.

Before reading further, please be warned: I love to tinker and often tinker and modify purely for the love of it, it might not always be needed!

The Carrera 917 is slightly modified. I replaced the guide with B-Nova adapter and Slot.It guide and fitted SCC axle blocks. The car has the original motor, rear wheels (aluminum front) and gearing. The car is more difficult to drive, but the motor/gearing has more punch. It is narrower in the rear track by about 5mm compared to the Fly. It ran 4.761 tonight with one off.

BTW - congratulations on the move into the wireless world, again (inside industry comment)

                  Chris

Wow, thanks Chris - appreciate it! Re the "move", I'd had enough & left the company in Nov. It'll be real interesting to see IF they can pull it off; two other big initiatives already sucking resources dry. I think your team can rest easy.

I also have raced a Carrera 917 against a fleet of Fly Classics. I was able to "keep up" for the most part, but over a few laps, the Fly's would start pulling away.

I've yet to finish tuning it, but so far I've replaced the rear axle assembly along with CBD wheels and QS tires. I also put Slot.It plastic wheels on front. So far I've kept the independent front axle and stock guide system. I hope to replace the guide system someday so I can run a solid front axle. I believe this will help the handling.

The slim can motor with stock gearing has a little more punch than Fly's running stock motor with stock gearing. At this point, my Carrera isn't handling as well as a good handling Fly.

Interesting- thanks for that. I have a fleet of Fly classics, and with a solid front axle , some basic tuning and the right tires - they can Fly! I'm always hesitant to add another brand from the same era unless its comparable. Judging by the initial response I'll probably pass and just run what I have.

Hopefully Carrera keep making strides into this era and in performance- as it sounds like they've come a long way in the last ten years. But I do wonder which other manufacturers aside from Slot.it or NSR will dip their toe into this era?
