At great personal risk I am going to recommend you search on the McMaster-Carr website for vials. They offer an amazing variety.

I have an account Ed, thanks for the recommendation - I found some screw cap ones really inexpensive on the internet store and they'll be here before I blink an eye!

Just offered a suggestion. The tire tubes with cap are about 1/2" diameter x 1.5" long. YMMV

I spent a bit of time this morning organizing my stock of 1/32nd scale slotcar gears.

            IMG_3034.JPG

I already had a parts box dedicated to my collection of Sonic brand Ultra-Light spur and pinion gears. I now have them organized and labeled by tooth count and overall diameter. Knowing the OD of the gears helps me verify the tooth count. I only have to measure them to the nearest hundredth of an inch.

Using the OD to verify tooth count probably only works with any one particular brand/model of gear. Especially if you use it for crown gears. Slotcar manufacturers are known to futz with the tooth form in spur and anglewinder driven gears. Sonic brand gears at least have a consistent tooth form.

I plan to build a number of interchangeable drive modules with different gear ratios -- designed to drop into several bodies, identical except for paint color. I should be able to build drive modules with gear ratios from 50/14 down to 48/20. That should give me a good chance of finding the right ratio for any particular track, assuming I get enough practice time.

Those drive modules, by the way, are full sidewinder assemblies made with my own design, custom printed parts. Including ball bearings on the rear axle.

Those large dia. Sonic gears (mainly used for 1/24 drag racing) will require some really really tall rear tires for 1/32 cars...

                Cheers

I definitely need to add one of those to my list of parts on order!

                    Chris,

Not so very tall. At 21 to 22mm diameter the wheels/tires required for the 48 tooth Sonic spur gear are a nice fit to the wheel wells of my Cooper Monaco and McLaren bodies. Yeah, both bodies look a bit high, I admit that. But that large spur gear allows me to fit a full sidewinder drive under the very narrow Cooper.

By the way, that drive sub-chassis under the Cooper is my own design, printed in PETG on my Creality Ender 3 Pro. The way I've designed the mounting allows fine adjustment of the tire clearance without shims. Those are 0-80 screws doing the clamping. Different thicknesses of the blue spacers allow a wide size range of pinion gears.

The rear axle carrier has ball bearings, and also uses 0-80 fasteners. I installed the wheels backwards so the hub of the spur gear fits inside, reducing the width of the rear axle assembly JUST enough to fit the body width.

Love the old orange McLaren. Built on in 1/25 as a kid, one of my fave cars.

I am constantly reorganizing my slot room...and then I start a new project and cannot remember where I now have that obscure piece I want.

There is a memory technique that goes back to the ancient Greeks called the "Palace of Memory". If you have never heard of it, look it up. Well worth your time.

One way that I reassure myself that my 70-year-old synapses are still in good working order is that my "Workshop of Memory" recalls so many odd tools and materials I own, and where to find them. Usually. Sometimes it takes a while, but as a friend of mine once said, "Everything takes longer at our age."
