Where has IndyCar manipulated calls to 'aid the show'?

I like the push to pass concept in IndyCar. Unlike DRS, the driver ahead is not a sitting duck. It is interesting at the end of an IndyCar race to see how the drivers have managed it over the course of the race.

Every time they throw a yellow there is the potential to affect the race results.

They don't, as far as I know, ever use a VSC.

      Push-to-pass remains a lottery too.

"Every time they throw a yellow" makes no sense. Are you saying they throw yellows for no reason?

Not sure how push to pass is a lottery. Every driver gets the same amount of time.

And none of them can know when they use it what will happen later in the race.

The same thing can be said of fuel and tires. You could save fuel and tires, or build your pit strategy around pedal to the metal with an extra stop. A caution throws all that out the window, too. You have to manage all aspects of your car, and that includes push to pass. Not sure how that is any less strategic. It's much better than the farce of DRS.

Indeed the same thing can be said.

Making drivers use different tyres during a race is fake, it is done to spice up the show.

The DRS may be artificial, but it exists to solve a particular problem, and it isn't a lottery.

The driver who uses push to pass knows he's using it since he pushes a button to activate it. I assume you mean the other drivers don't know when he is using it. Kinda the point. Same way other drivers don't know if he is struggling or if he is saving fuel and tires. But if you want racing without any rules etc. that make the racing "artificial" then here you go:

                1, Max horsepower of X
                2. Max wheelbase of X
                3. Max front wheel track width of X
                4. Max real wheel track width of X
                5. Minimum weight of X
                6. No yellow flags, safety cars, VSC, etc.

Substitute whatever values that make you happy for X, drop the green and see who wins.

This probably all belongs in the fix thread.

I like that F1 cars are prototypes, the technology is amazing. But it does mean that, in all probability the guy in the best one will get pole and win the race.

I don't see why some people have a problem with this. In other sports the best guy wins, there is no moaning.

Again, I'll skip the personal stuff.

I was more thinking racing fans in general, especially those on social media.

Motorsport does seem to dabble with fakery, especially American owned ones, which is a lot. They must feel they need to.

Fans of others sports just would not stand for similar things, not that those sports would resort to it.

Ok. I'll skip the constant moaning about how Americans are screwing up motorsports.

That is your choice of course, it is just a discussion.

It does interest me that so many motorsport fans want to have the racing 'made' more exciting somehow, I really don't understand it. Loads of sports don't interest me, so I don't watch them. I'd never ask for things to be cooked up, never expect the governing bodies to even consider such things.

Maybe my school friends were right, motor racing is boring. Except I never found that, I always loved it with a deep passion. I'd be lucky enough to travel all over the world to see it, watching countless races were the best combination of car and driver won, often comfortably. There be retirements, injuries and even deaths that could really affect the outcome, and all of them were on some level of upsetting at the time. None of that put me off.

Could care less about F1, much less the 2022 season after the 2021 farce.

                              That seems extreme.

Had Latifi's crash been two laps earlier the outcome would of been the same, without Masi altering the procedures on the fly.

That seems a pretty small margin over which to quit watching it forever.

Decisions made for a race that resulted in the outcome of a world championship is extreme…….

Latifi's crash didn’t happen two laps earlier …….

A determining BS made up re-start make the rules up as we go is a small margin. Not in my book. No longer interested.
