  • FLY Mercedes Truck / AMT Tanker Trailer Project

Been enjoying the "Slot Car-A-Zation" (New word??) of other wise
inanimate 1:32 and 1:24 vehicles that seem to be naturals for the track.

Got the epiphany a while back to take an old 1:25 AMT Tanker Trailer Kit and
set it up to go with a 1:32 FLY Mercedes Truck.

One would think the two "scales" wouldn't work together...but they kind of do.

    Key enablers were:

    - Add a fair amount of weight inside the Tanker itself to prevent it bouncing / becoming too light on the track.
    - Really work to ensure the all rear trailer tires are level / flat on the track so they all roll. Looks like junk when they just "skid".
    - Treat the Tandem axles like slot car axles / bearings. Sand and smooth-out the splines to ensure maximum roll of the tires.
    - Added a guide flag under the tandem axles to prevent cutting corners...gives it a more life-like presence running on the track.

You'll notice different rear wheels on the Mercedes in the pics. Originally was playing with "steelies"
all around, but didn't like the look on the front...so I reverted back to stock wheels.

The attendant is a perfect addition....

Will post a few more of others I've done.

    Share yours as well!

    Enjoy.
    Mark

i see the picts. looks cool. The tanker box says it is 1/25, but it is not much bigger than the fly truck.

Yeah, I thought the two were pretty close to equal scale as well...so I figured I'd give it a shot.

Another good kit for "Slot Car-A-Zation" are the Entex 1:32 Ford Transporters.
You see them on eBay once in a while.
The Ford C-900 Tractor / 27 Ft. Trailer in either Ferrari or Porsche colors and the Ford C-800 Transport Truck with ELF.

          I converted the ELF Truck.
The Galaxie actually fits in the back.
          Turned out pretty cool....

I see 'em now. You're right, the scale actually doesn't look that far off. Thanks Mark

The HO guys around here have tractor trailer races.
Think it would work in 1/32 scale?

Sounds interesting, but I bet because of the size it’d quickly turn into a demolition derby.
Like the old Top Gear “Caravan Racing” episodes.
Still would be fun to try....

The HO races turn into a demo derby, too.
Very nice Entex kit. Awful pricey on the auction site.

I wonder if I could motorize my HO transporter....

Maybe the famous Matchbox “King Size” green BP Racing Transporter would be a good platform to convert.
Scale is pretty close..or maybe not.??
More room to package Motor / Running Gear with 1:32 slot car components.
May be a bit heavy, but gearing can solve drivability issues.

                        Do it!!!

I definitely like the wheels. It looks great. How bout some chrome paint on the tanker body to simulate the polished stainless?

                            Yeah...that could work.
                            Let me noodle with it.
                            Thanks!

Entex's 1:32 Ford C-800 ELF Racing Transporter converted to slot car Transporter.
Had fun editing pic for a more vintage feel.

Going to start a separate thread on all Three (3) of the 1:32 Transporters Entex offers.
As Fall approaches, it may be worth considering one for your next "project".
