carbon fiber laying up of bodies

Good morning, I am keenly interested in scratch building, and looking at how to create bodies made from fibreglass and carbon fibre. However, I have no idea where to start in the process. I have received a stunning body from SlotFabrik in Germany, which is extremely lightweight, and made from what I seem to think is layed up carbon fibre cloth.

Are there any members here that do this type of work and are happy to share knowledge of how this process works?

I assume you purchase a Diecast model, then take a silicon mold, the start the layup from there?

Yes, you would assume correct as to the procedure, somewhat. Here's some professional information on how to do it right the first time and not waste materials and money.

You are in luck! Years ago I saved an article in Model Car & Track on making fiberglass bodies. I just made that into a PDF and uploaded that to my Google Drive.

I have all of the issues of MC&T on CDROMs, there is no index, so I will have to look at everything to see if there is an article on making molds. If you do a search on resin casting you should find lots of information on making molds.

I don't think that silicone molds were used at that time and cast bodies were not plain resin.
