After a four week break our first Summer race of 2016 saw 25 racers take to our new Motegi track, run for the first time in 12 years. The 2004 track had been extended and ran very well with some long straights and superb corner sections.
It was great to take my first win of the season in the Adults although Simon Goodlip pushed me all the way. Congratulations to Geoff Peach for taking the Masters although he nearly deafened poor ole Russell Lawson when his car came off near the end of the ‘C’ Final! Congratulations also to Adam Turnbull for his fourth straight win in the Juniors with Gabe Reyes-England well on his way to the Cadet Championship after yet another sterling drive. He didn’t have it all his own way though as we welcomed our newest Member five year old Josh Martinez (Third picture attached on the right with a thumbs up from Tom James who took his first Final win of the year) who gave Gabe a run for his money.
Thanks to Darryn Mutch, Doug Passell, Phil Rees and Roy Masters (who donated the new screen) we also ran the Race Coordinator Lap counting and timing system, alongside the Tomy Timers, for the first time at DHORC tonight. While we won’t be using it for running the evening it was invaluable for the drivers to see where they were during a race. We simply just reset the system after each race using the spacebar on Darryn’s lap top and set each race going with the same spacebar. It couldn’t have been more simple and worked perfectly all night.
