Friday 1-7-11 was the first race of the 2011 season for the NJSCRA132 group in New Jersey. It was also the start of our next series (Fast Can Am and FIA/LE MAN GT1, 2, 3, 4 Carrera, Scalextric, Fly, and SCX).
After a 3 week layoffs due to the holiday’s (BTW Happy New Years) racers were eager to get back on the track and show off the work they have been doing over the lay off. First up was the Fast Can Am (Slot it Alpha and Ferrari, Chaparral, NSR 917K). It seems like a lot of people myself included waited for this series to open up that Slot it Chaparral that we got a few months ago. I think the group would agree that this car is “NICE”. Nothing like taking a car out of the box, pulling out that darn magnet, and throwing on a set of silicones and have the car run nicely. Then with some fine tuning including weight here and there, may some gears, and of course running the motor for a few hundred laps, BAM!!!! You got a killer car!
Jeff the race host who in our series is always the last person up watched as the racers posted some great lap times with these Fast Can Am cars. But then again for those who know him, it was not a worry. We all knew that Jeff had a car “ready” for battle. Dan who for some reason always seems to race next to yours truly has been hard at work now that he has a track. Of course the rest of the field was ready for racing (who wasn’t after almost a week away from racing.
Up next was a series that we (NJSCRA132) have not raced before in a full series. As you can imagine these cars are VERY different than the first race. But, none the less competitive racers were eager to get these cars out on the track. The vast majority of racers had their Scaley Austin Martins on the track, however we did have a couple of Ford GT’s, and a Porsche 911, and an Audi R8 that Dan Drove to 1st place followed by Jeff then Carl.
Our third race of the evening featured those 50’s and 60’s classic. While most people ran their Ninco classics Jeff pulled out his Scalextric Chatham. Carl once again has his Jaguar (which I think should be impoundedJ) running, well, like a Jaguar. Carl ran away with this race with a 3 lap advantage over Jeff in Second and Dan in Third. Cars featured in this race included Cobra’s, Testarossa, Corvette, Chattam, and Jaguar.
