  • IROC Series

In addition to many of our members racing every Monday night at SlingShot Raceway, we're running an IROC series and have added a couple of new tracks to our rotation. Welcome to SlingShot Raceway's new track, and to Grand Loop Raceway, owned by JHardy33, to our race rotation.

The new track at SlingShot is NINCO and has a mix of fast corners and some very technical bits, with a few R1's thrown in for NINCO WC practice. We raced identically prepared Slot.its there, and they were a ball on the new track. At Grand Loop, Jay provided identically prepared Fly Classics to race on his new painted NINCO track. What a treat to get to race those beautiful cars! I don't have any pictures to post of Jay's track yet, but it's almost identical to the Professor's layout, but with "bullet" turns (a 180 degree R2 with two sections of R1 in the center, looks like the head of a bullet) to make it fit in the available space.

So far, we've raced identically prepared no-mag Cartix '50s F1 cars on my track, stock Fly Lola's on Wally's track, no-mag NINCO Meganes on George's track, no-mag Slot.its on Lance's SlingShot track, Fly Classics on Jay's track, and Scaley A1GP cars, provided by Britt, with the magnet moved forward and raised on my track. We have four more races in the series with light-mag Carrera 512BBs provided by Batman Jack at George's track, no-mag NINCO 997s provided by LowTech (Jon) at Wally's track, no-mag NINCO Moslers provided by Jason at Jay's track, and finally, Mark is going to provide some surprise cars to race at SlingShot Raceway. This has proven to be a really fun series, allowiing us to run some great cars that we normally wouldn't get to race because they don't appeal to everyone, so wouldn't get enough votes to run a normal series.

The only downside to this series is that we've been missing the good humor of The Old Jaybird while he's on assignment out of town. At least we got to see him at the Mitty. Come back and race when you can Jay.

    Good report Jim.
I've enjoyed this series. It's help the guys that arn't experienced buiders and closed the gap on the better racers. Also, we now have IROC cars to run in the future at the different tracks for close racing.

Here's a shot of Grand Loop Raceway Park. A direct copy of the Professors track. Thanks Jim! I'm preping some more Fly classics for a non points paying IROC race once we finish with the Moslers, time permitting. I now run the track in the opposite direction from when we last raced for a much smoother flow and the Chevrons are very similar for what should be some very close racing.

          Jay,

Your track came out looking great. Which way do you run your track? I race mine counter clockwise. Jim does a great job making tracks that flow well and I have been very happy with the crossover so that the lane length are equal. It makes for great racing.

Thanks Professor. Jim did a great job and it certainly flows well. We raced on it last night with Ninco Moslers and Slot it Porches and had some great racing. Very close and competitive. My driver stations all face the monitor and the cars travel from right to left down the back straight in front of the monitor.
