More Questions than Answers
Excellent Thread Van........
Although I know one of the tracks pretty well......
, there is some very interesting information to be obtained from looking at the others.
Some points initially come to mind :-
1) Some of those tracks have very long straights, so possibly a more powerful motor than the 25K Slot.it I was going to use in Prototype may be advantageous.
2) Tires, as always, will be very important.....but what do you use?. That Ninco track worries me as I know Ortmans don't like Ninco, it's too grippy, and the shinny South African Track....I haven't got a clue.
3) The video's were interesting, as the Slovakian cars seem to be really flying, but were they running Lexan cars?....(Note to self...get in touch with Matev for some inside info).
4) Where is Nick getting hold of all that track for the desert expedition?...Has he been in secret contact with Russell ?......
5) Where is Vanski going to build that monster Le Mans track?.....Has he rented a warehouse?...or has Paul let him have one of his spare rooms....
6) Weight is also a problem, Phil's Holbart track is a real problem as unless a car weighs at least 120grams or more, they don't work there.....Elsewhere, too much weight may be a disadvantage.....
Oh well back to the drawing board.................

Depth of the slot
Having never raced on some of these brands of track can some one please let us know what the maximum depth of guide can be to suit Ninco, Polistil and Scalex plastic?

Ninco is a full 1/4", or ~6mm deep slot. Although it is nominally .100" wide, or ~2.5mm, it tends to squeeze down to .085" (~2.2mm) at the joints. I measured a piece of new Ninco track to get these dimensions.
My own wood track, East New York Raceway, is routed 1/8" wide, 1/4" deep.
At the ongoing VRAA races, on ENY Raceway, we can get good performance from Indy Grips as well as Ortmann tires if we run the sillies as a group. No other sillies were entered in the VRAA.
PPR/Super Tires, and Slot.It S1's were OK here during the RAA '05 one year ago, but the Ortmann tires seemed to have the edge in grip; we did not, however, segregate the groups.
Jel Claws work well, provided they have a good run of 25-50 laps to warm up.
Recent trials with "rubber" tires such as Ninco and Pro Slot show fair grip, but not as good as one needs to really go fast.Comment

Weapon of choice
The narrowest/shallowest slot the cars will need to negotiate is Scalextric Sport with a depth of 5.2 mm at the power base and a width of 2.5mm. Please note that I will be employing some R1 curves on Van's LeMans.Originally posted by Phil Kalbfell

I think the best choice is Ninco or NSR tires on Ninco track, also good are SCX tires on Polistil track.
Ninco has abrasive surface, Polistil is smooth.
Note: we don't use silicone tires.

Whay cities are the GPR tracks in ?

You and your crew are doing a great job. I have never entered a proxy race before and only made minor changes to RTR cars. However I think I will give the GT class a try, as it looks like so much fun. If I can't travel around the world maybe a car of mine can. So if it is possible could let us know what city each stop of the GPR is in. This way I will plot it out on a map and follow my car around the world. If I ever win the Loto, I will cary the box myself, wouldn't that be a blast.

The track maintenance crew have been hard at work getting rid of the infamous "jump" at Midford Combe. Should be nice and smooth for the visiting GPR runners.

Hi all,
I recently bought San Phoeno Raceway off the previous owner, due to him having to move house etc, and am pleased to say the round for GPR 2007 will still be taking place on it. The track has a fair amount of rubber laid on it due to the group I'm in as we run pretty much box standard cars, so rubber tyres only.
Unsure how that'll affect the silicone tyred cars or anything overall, as I've never run them or done much researching.

You have a great track there that Martin put together. He will be routing his next one directly into the hardwood living room floor, I believe; may have to wait till the wife's away of course.
It will be interesting to see how the silicon-tyre cars make out on tracks like the San Phoeno Raceway that normally only see the light of rubber.
Hope you're going to have an entry car or two of your own in the GPR!
Also, any plans in the works yet for another Auslot Proxy next year?

Yeah, as I said, I'm not sure how the silicon tyred cars will go.... could be very interesting.
With work and my 1:1 car activities (I take part in drifting and soon to be doing track days), I don't really have any plans to enter a car myself, as I can't scratchbuild for squat, and if anything I'd really just intend on entering a box stock Fly car which wouldn't really be that competitive, doheth!
I do however, look forward to driving everyone elses cars, and hopefully getting some tips on how things are done!

Well, that's what I'm entering so I guess you'll get to see if you're right...and probably so....entering a box stock Fly car which wouldn't really be that competitive...
