  • Prototype Race at East New York

RL drives again. 10 minute solo event, self marshalled under green. Best lap time is tie breaker, for placing these cars in order.

Not all cars have run, yet. Cars will be added as they are run.
12/3/06: five cars raced, added below in bold

    First Place, so far:
    #69 Porsche 917K, Terry Noe, 115 laps.
    Best Lap Time: 5.070 sec.
    Offs: 0.
Smooth runner, easy, Slot.It S1 tires, Orange Endbell Slot.It V12/3 sidewinder, HRS chassis, a good combination. Easy to go fast and stay in the slot. I wore the good luck necklace Terry sent with the car. Spare tire in the rear, fairly narrow rear track, but Terry built a fast one. Every car should be this good.

    #16 Ferrari 612P, Phil Kalbfell, 112 laps.
    Best Lap Time: 5.088 sec.
Offs: 2. Massive car, with howling front tires, must be heard to be believed. Brass plate chassis works well with loose mounted resin body on floppy plates. NSR tires, Fox motor, this car is a heavyweight in the broadest sense.

    #9 Ferrari 330 P4, Pete N95, 112 laps.
    Best Lap Time: 5.184 sec.
    Offs: 0.
Smooth, anglewinder NC5 in flat Ninco chassis, aftermarket metal gears. Very stable cornering, nice drifts, easy to drive. Large Ocar body provides a wide rear track. NSR tires. Nice drive!

    #36 Porsche 908/3, Recklessracer, 110 laps.
    Best Lap Time: 5.121 sec.
Offs: 2. Boy, did I push this car. Smooth, with true, independent spinning front tires, nice balance, quite a race car. Inline HRS chassis; could use a little more motor than the NSR Shark.

    #5 Ferrari 330 P3 Spyder, abie321, 105 laps.
    Best Lap Time: 5.265 sec.
Offs: 3. Slot.It rubber(?) or silicone(?) tires started hooking up, very surprising, not slippery like it was when timed last week. Fox-type Fly Racing motor pushes this big car fast.

    #28 Porsche 917K, Spirit Racer, 105 laps.
    Best Lap Time: 5.279 sec.
    Offs: 5.
Fast car, when it isn't spinning out. Steel TSRF chassis pan is bent, front wheels make only occasional contact with the pavement. Must be driven below its potential speed due to sudden spins.

    #49 Ferrari 330 P4, Nick49, 102 laps.
    Best Lap Time: 5.300
Offs: 4. Scalextric chassis rebuilt to allow body movement, works OK but seems to need weight added. Occasionally flips out. Stock motor a little slow for this class.

#24 Porsche 908, Milo de Bluetoes, 102 laps.
    Best Lap Time: 5.380 sec.
Offs: 3. Car rolled over a couple of times, on account of weak brakes on the downhill straight leading to the hairpin. Tired V12/2 25k should be replaced. Stiff steel-spring chassis is probably intended to flex. Solid car, pleasant to drive most of the time.

    #54 Porsche 908, Triggerhappy, 102 laps.
    Best Lap Time: 5.391 sec.
Offs: 4. Fly body stretched over a TSRF chassis with steel pin guide. Not quite enough traction to hold the TSRF motor. Could use a looser body mount. Watch out for this one on a track with longer straights, provided the grip comes in.

    #7 Chaparral 2D Coupe, Austin, 101 laps.
    Best Lap Time: 5.637 sec.
Offs: 1. Discovered this car had never been lubed. Greased the gears and oiled the bearings, and the car stopped the hopping and deslotting it had done last week, smoothed out, made a good run.

    #64 Chevron, Kazooracer, 100 laps.
    Best Lap Time: 5.323 sec.
Offs: 3. Hopped out of slot on the widest sweeping curves, generally stable in the corners, but out-of-round tires degrade forward speed. Car feels like it is a motor boat, planing over choppy water.

#18 Ferrari 312P Coupe, Bee Jay, 97 laps.
    Best Lap Time: 5.341 sec.
    Offs: 7.
Front tires jam in fenders against thick Slot.It lead wires on one side; on the other side, too-short lead wire prevents full guide travel. Guide does not pivot easily, nut appears to be binding against nose. Or maybe it's the wires. Pro Slot Euro Mk 1 provides plenty of power. Milan T's chassis allows too much upward travel of front axle, not enough flex, acts like a solid flat chassis. Some fast laps, some slow laps, depending on what is rubbing against what.

#8 Chevron, Da Vols, 95 laps.
    Best Lap Time: 5.340 sec.
    Offs: 5.
Slippery, but still capable of going so fast it flips or spins out. I settled for driving under the crash speed, fell way behind the pack. Lots of fish tailing here, with Fox II motor providing boundless power to spin the big slicks.

    #6 Porsche 917 P-A Spyder, BigDSonic, 91 laps.
    Best Lap Time: 5.383 sec.
Offs: 8. Driving this car is like balancing a pile of dishes. The body teeters on top of the motor pod, which pivots so far the tires come in contact with the body, contributing to frequent de-slots. Light carbon fiber chassis. Might be good on a magnet track. Front wheels out of round. Pro Slot Euro Mk1 motor moves it along way faster than the suspension can handle.

Oh ho! Things are getting even more interesting with this latest buzz from the Connecticut basement.

Some decent running 908s in the mix there I see. I hope they enjoy their moment in the sun.

Your car is sitting on the grid, Da Vols. I cleaned the tires with Mongo pads. I'll give her some warm up laps to rubber-in the track, if you don't mind. But, not tonight!

Oh No...but you're in for a big climatic change today

Robert - No need for warm up laps unless you do it for all...those F1 P3's come in quicker than the standard Slot.It rubber. Actually, this is an experiment to see if this tire/wheel size works...the Kai Alfa rims are made for the standard Slot. Its and not the F1's, but I had immediate success with 2 cars on wood with this not right matching that I wanted to see how it worked on the various tracks. Just glad it passed tech on that part since they are just slightly over-sized than the stock Fly ones.

thanks for pushin' the Reckless 908 to a great run Robert ..... I realize there are others to come, and I'll probably fall down the leader board, but it sounds like you got the best out of my entry and had fun. Great Report

The cold, dry winds of winter have struck East New York.

I will do some head to head comparisons with abie321's big green Ferrari, also with Slot.It rubber, under controlled test conditions. His car showed a dramatic improvement. Not sure why. Humidity was about 5% higher on the gauge when his car ran faster. Grip felt very much higher. No other car felt so different.

All cars are run for at least 40 laps, so I can get the feel of the car at operating temperature, and the fastest lap time at which the car can run without deslotting; the car then sits for a while, and is started up at room temperature for the actual race heat.

The size of the tires looks OK for the body. These GB Track Chevrons are about 1/30 scale, so oversize tires and wheels present no problem. It's the undersized low profile tires that look really bad, and "slot car-ish".

You'd think this being a Global Proxy Race, the Global Warming theory would come into play - sheesh, no hurricanes and no traction, Mr Gore you got some 'splainin' to do

Que sera...sera - as mentioned, I'm going for the Artin's so setting fastest times would be detrimental to that end

Terry, I wore the necklace, but Dave was not there to take the picture. Maybe you'll settle for first place.

Five cars raced tonight, see post #1 of this thread. A wide variety of cars.
