Milo's PC board chassis has yellow tape over the magnet. Anything to keep the short circuits from happening is OK. This rule is not a big technical issue. If the ground clearance is high enough, or the the magnet is near the rear wheels, it will never cause a short circuit, even if it is not covered with plastic or tape. Dennis' Lola has clear tape over the entire underside of he brass plate, which is an excellent idea. Phil's brass plate doesn't, but rides high enough that I doubt it will hit on any stray high spots. Beejay's car (PC board) also has sufficient ground clearance. My Ferrari's magnet is higher than some other parts of the chassis, but I covered it just the same. Eventually.

Clearance

If the cars have the 1.6mm clearance shouldn't they clear the track easily,or are the magnets lower than 1.6mm?

The cars should clear the track if they have 1.5mm clearance, but rail joints on plastic track can be bent, and project upward, particularly at the crest of a hill. It's just a precaution.
