Before we get started, I'm afraid I have to withdraw my car from Prototype.

During qualifying the gears started to make a terrible noise and after stripping down the rear end I found this:-



It would appear that these chassis are not really up to prolonged running!....The bearing was fine, it was just the surround that had worn away. No way to repair it, (the one the other side is going the same way), I'm afraid the chassis is a scrapper..........I'm gutted but anyhow....the race must boggity on.........

Alan, can you epoxy the bearings into the frame?
It looks like the left bearing seized on the axle, and spun the bearing in the upright. A new bearing (or the old one, if it fits the axle nicely) could be glued in place, with a heavy glue that fills the opening in the upright bearing support.

Did Milan's chassis have oblong holes to allow you to choose the height of the bearings? Or did the holes wear into oblongs? I suspect you need a new gear, too!

You can still fix the thing in time for the next race, if you choose to do so. There is a penalty for a repair this drastic:
"Major repairs which take longer than race time, such as chassis fix, guide fix; gear or motor replacement, will be completed at the track, but car will be listed as “DNS” or “DNF”, and will receive no lap credit for that race. If car owner wishes car to be sent home for repair between races, car will miss one race. This could be the race just completed, at which breakdown may have occurred (resulting in DNS/DNF, or race completed by a broken car), or the following race, by owner's choice."

Beautiful car, really nicely finished. Excellent original chassis.
Car has limited braking and grip faded badly towards the end of qualifying.

I do wish there had been another magnet round in between...I'm sorta waiting for the motor to blow up so I can replace it and work my way in front of WCR in the standings

Succinct ruling oh Guru of Poxy Rabbits! Would seem to me that BeeJay won't be able to accumulate any lap credit in the home shed regardless; but also that he can essentially fix/repair/rebuild/replace any and all components necessary to make the car raceworthy once again? Alan is clearly doing an expeditious job of running this round, so he could perhaps finish his repairs and then airmail the home wreck to Oz a bit after the others have been shipped off in their big box?

I hate to admit it, but a large track magnet round is just what I was needing to zip past AJK and significant others around now - instead, even the Noemobile outqualfied me, now how sad is that eh? Oh well Milo, it must be said that car of yours does look very nice.

Great original chassis that has tremendous potential. Too much body roll at the moment to get decent lap times. I tried an experiment with this car, by placing two Ninco classic tyres in the chassis to restrict chassis movement.....the car then recorded lap times in the 3.9's!....Please keep developing this chassis.

Hi Alan, thanks for the great feedback on my car. This is the kind of info I need to continue to develop this chassis style.

Don't understand that with all the delays there have been and Alan's running his round quicker than any other host has so far that he can't take the time to repair the car and ship it along with the rest of the group. Plus, let's applaud his honesty as it being his car at his home...could have easily made repairs with no one the wiser.

Well I've just caught up with all this and I'm greatly surprised how well my Ferrari has gone in qualifying. Great pictures Alan.

Ferrari repair

Having thought long and hard about withdrawing my car due to it's unfortunate bearing failure and encouraged by some very nice PM's, I thought I would have a look to see what could be done to raise this Pheonix from the Ashes.....after all we can't let those Porkies get away with too much can we?........

I checked out Roberts excellent suggestion but I just couldn't see a decent solution to getting enough "meat" into that bearing housing for a lasting repair, so I came up with this:-

As you can see, like it's owner, it is very simple....just two brass rods soldered to the main chassis section, one very cut down Slot.it Pod, (My Kenwood Porsche was not happy about donating it's pod!), fixed into position by good old JB Weld, (the strongest stuff I know of).
I don't think this chassis will give any advantage over the existing set up as the pod will be fixed "solid" and only flex with the chassis, plus I can use existing motor, axle, wheels and tyres. The only change necessary will be a new pinion and crown as the originals were pretty much destroyed as a result of the bearing failure.

I'm more than happy to accept Roberts ruling, it seems more than fair to me, and agree that I won't receive any distance for this round.
If anyone is unhappy with this solution, or the continuation of my entry in this series please let me know...the last thing I want to do is upset anybody.

Alan, your solution is acceptable within the rules we wrote for the GPR last summer. These rules have remained the same, but this is the first time the penalty part has been needed, because this is the first time a GPR car has been rebuilt.

Rather than deny credit for an entire race, bring the car back onto the track after it is fixed, qualify for best lap time, and miss only one heat as penalty. Missing the entire race at Midford Combe is too much. I think we can interpret the rule to say a car which needs this much repair misses only one heat or segment, not the whole race.

It looks like a good rebuild job, too, and with a Slot.It rear end you can't go wrong. If anything, the gear mesh will be smoother, and the car should go faster and last through the series. And please take all the time you need; your efficiency in racing these cars in a timely and organized fashion, with great photos and descriptions, is appreciated! Thank you!

As today is an "official rest day", I thought you might like to see and hear some of the latest news and incidents from the Coombe:-



There was a bad crash earlier today when Capri ace "Da Vols" was out testing his Chevron. A local reporter was quickly on the scene and spoke to the clearly confused driver. Da Vols said, " I heard one of my pit crew shout out IN THE WALL, and I thought he meant use the wall to get round the corner as we do in NASCAR"..........



Another incident involving BigDsonic was also reported. Of a more minor nature it would appear the Big D was taking one sway too many:-





Damage to car tyre wall was minimal, but a disgusted Big D was reported to have said, " I've had enough I'm off to Portsmouth to study the sailors leaving the pub, if they can sway properly after a few pints, I'm sure I can get the hang of it!".


Officials have heavily criticised Australian driver Phil Kalbfell, for causing significant damage to one of the historic roadside walls here today, with his heavily weighted CanAm Ferrari. Kalbfell showed no remorse for his actions and made this parting comment, "Strewth, you fellahs call that damage, you've obviously never taken part in one of our V8 Supercar races"...







Kalbfell was last seen heading to the pub, singing "I come from a land Down Under".


A serious incident occurred on the main straight earlier today when Canadian Superstar driver, and part time rock god, Mondial O'Nuthin was seen to ignore a waved blue flag whilst being overtaken by Porsche driver Tony Kuljis. The incident resulted in O'Nuthin leaving the road, demolishing a track marshsals position and finishing up in the branches of a tree....When questioned by officials O'Nuthin said, "I didn't realise what that flag meant, I thought it was a fan waving at me"......Kuljis made no comment.
