Is this normal over a long proxy series, cars as far apart as 2.1 seconds per lap?
I think it's all relative; take out the top couple of qualifiers, (as being exceptionally good) and the last couple, (as being maybe not so good), and then look at the spread.

And of course none of this tells us how easy they are to drive smoothly and quickly over successive laps, or whether their motors and tires improve with continuous running.

But it is nice to look in the mirrors, again, and see Dr Vanski & Tony behind me, again.

      Paul
Area 51 looks like a very long track so that might explain the varied results.

The GPR may have a larger time spread than some proxy races, because in this race, it is easier to enter a slower car. Given the variety in body styles and sizes one can choose, some cars are much taller and narrower than others. The amount of changes and rebuilding undertaken by entrants has sometimes exceeded their skill level. Some entrants have never entered a race like this before. When I tech'ed the cars last winter, at the beginning, the disparity in performance was obviously greater than in the RAA (for example), where one was compelled by the rules to enter a long, low, flat, wide car, and one could be competitive with cars closer to box-stock.

Come to think of it, it is rare that anyone is behind you....ever... Good job on that Flounder.

Area 51 is a big boy! More than Double the size of any of the other SMR tracks. These cars will get a good work-out. Looking foward to this Saturday at Steves.

I expect to be there, if J. T. does not show up maybe I can drive his car again.

Guys, I won't be there. (With my driving skills, parking the car in the pits might be the best result if I were!).

I would be honored to have Rich D drive my car, he did a great job against Wayne on Wayne's own track no less (and also did his best with my VRAA Sprite).

I've been thinking that having individual car owners drive their own cars exclusively seems to be against the general tradition of proxy racing. I believe Gascarnut even recused himself from driving his own car on his own track at his recent VRAA race. But, in the GPR I think that the individual race formats are up to the individual track owners, so this is not a hard and fast rule. I think the obvious point is to spread the driver talent equally across all cars so the result is due to the car's performance, not the driver's.

I agree, which is why I'm nominating Steve Sawtell to drive my Flunder.

However, I have it on good authority that the other Porsche Prototype entrants absolutely insist that if they're not there in person, then their cars should remain parked in the pits.

In some cases, it would be a disadvantage to run your own car, particularly on a track you have never driven before (I'm thinking my car will do better if someone else drives it on Saturday, not me!).

                            Excellent use of homonyms, Paul.
