First off, the Global Proxy Race Series was an excellent idea that unfortunately ran into some unexpected hiccups along the way, but a standing ovation to all the organizers who saw it through to a great finish.

Shortly all the cars specifically built for this series will be returned...alas considering the proxy series set for next year these cars have no place to go other than the proverbial pasture since there are no series that they will fit into.

With that in mind and taking the good from the now run GPR, what about a "Red, White, and/or Blue Proxy" series comprised of the USA, Canada, UK, and Australia???

Given the good experience had with those hosts in the GPR (and the hassle-free of customs), I think given the same rules a revised venue series could be as popular???

Anywhat, just a thought...

Personally, I have had it with the GPR. In my opinion, Van's CPR picks up where the GPR leaves off, and I will gladly participate in that.

The years of cars for the GPR were 68-79; I think this is too broad a spread. It allows Group 5 "silhouette" cars to compete with XK-E Jags in the same class (GT), which seems incongruous to me. The field is too much of a mish-mash of real cars that didn't compete against each other in real life.

I also don't care for the long shipping intervals between continents. I think Proxy races are slow enough, even when contained within the US and Canada. The GPR only racked up eight races in a year.

I also don't like driving or building magnet cars.

Technically, the rules were a step forward, but the RAA rules (derived from the GPR) are cleaner, and more perfected.

However, that is not to say someone else can't start up a race of their own design.

Yup, my very first proxy car is orphaned after its maiden race series. C'est la guerre I suppose, it won't be CPR eligable for another 5 years.

As a concept, I thought the (originally named) World Proxy Race was a brilliant idea. The production was excellent, and thanks to the efforts of many it has careered along to a successful finish.

But apart from the fact that we must surely have more than enough Proxy series already setting up for next year, it also seems clear that most of us lack the patience needed to wait through the huge passages of time between events. In F1, where biweekly events are the norm, with some races on consecutive weekends, the occasional three week lull seems interminable.

I think the most enjoyable Proxy races in the future will be those with a tight focus, both in terms of era and build classification, run to a relatively tight schedule in the manner of the VRAA this year.

When my GPR car gets home, I intend to drive it myself. Can't let everybody else have all the fun...
