The Ferrari 330P4 isn't going so fast tonight. I don't get it. Best time 5.420; how in heck did this car do 5.271 yesterday?.
My driving is OK, as I drove a different car faster than ever. Motor weakening? Could it be those extra saw cuts I put in the chassis? If I keep cutting, it's going to have a full-floating Slot.It style motor pod, made out of the Scalextric pan. Maybe that is a good thing.
Here is where I'm at so far.
Slot.it HRS mounted with several challenges. One being the curved body of the 917 and me nearly melting the body by using industrial strength 2 part plastic welder. Never again! This stuff is even sold at my LHS.
Wheel inserts will be replaced with ones like the originals.
After visiting my LHS, I'm going to return to look at their line of paints for this car. The HOK Kandy "burple" I had for this car was thrown away at the shop. The painter said there was less than half a pint so he pitched it. That was more than enough to paint 10 slot cars. Oh well. Livery is still kinda sorta secret and will be fantasy livery for sure. Van, shhh!
This pic shows where I add a piece of styrene (sp?) to glue the HRS body mounts too. The 2 part plastic welder I used melted holes in the plastic channel I added to the 917 body. After removing the channel the sides of the 917 were like rubber. Everything is fine now.
As you can see the 917 body screw posts interfer with the guide wires of the HRS chassis. I'll dremelize the posts and clearance will be more than adequate.
Attention to detail. Replacing the rear body hardware will be easy. I'll have to give the rear of the HRS a slight haircut and trim the bars below the tail lights.
This ride is powered by a Slot.it 21.5k motor. Ratio is 3.27 (36/11). I'll test the car with the 3.27 and work my way numerically lower (higher ratio) with the 34 and 32 tooth 18mm spur gears. If the lap times are slower then I'll swap the 11 tooth pinion for a 10 and try the 34/10 and the 36/10.
Rear tire choice is still undecided. I have S1's and P3's here and will try to get a set of Ortmans to test. I have a set of Jel Claws and might try them again even though I already know how they will perform.
Thanks for looking.
Terry
Terry, your car is looking great, and you can't go wrong with those components. Tough competition in P class!
My Ferrari 330P4 is back up to speed. Seems I had neglected that I had a 16 gram sheet of lead taped underneath. So I pulled it off, and times shrank to the "fast" range. Can a 330P4 go fast enough to compete in the GPR? The tach says the standard Scalextric puffer is turning a wheezy 20.6k on 12v, no load. Out with it! I'll never catch up to that orange endbell 21.5k Slot. It!
I just came in from running 124 laps with the 917. That 21.5 really screams at 10.5 volts. In fact it screams so much its about .4 slow compared to my Slot.it 956 that had this same motor, spur/pinion and S1's in last week. The 917 is lacking the interior and all the cosmetic hardware at this point so its useless to be testing anyway. I'm hoping with interior and weight added it will come around to the Slot.it 956 zone for lap times.
I'll be satisfied if the 917 gets within a tenth and the handling is just as good as the 956's.
I hear you Robert. I'm also begining to wonder if entering my car in the P class will be suicide on my part.
Oh well. I'm just in this for the fashion.

What's your gearing? If too low the power may all be disappearing in wheelspin. Remember how much quicker the 23k proved to be than the 25k on your track?
Mind you, throwing a bit of lead at it probably won't hurt ...
Looks good, Terry, but I think you're geared too low, considering the HRS comes 11/34 with a 25k motor and you're running a 23k? I bet it goes well with the 32T gear.
...and you're running a 23k? I bet it goes well with the 32T gear.
The motor is the new Slot.it 21.5k. I have the 32 tooth spur on right now and haven't had chance to test yet. I'm in the process of turning down the 917 wheels to fit in the Slot.it HRS wheels....and yes, they fit beautifully.
Hmmm, nice 330 P4; what is the body? How wide over the rear fenders?
I am using a current-issue Scalextric, which has fine detail, but odd curves and proportions. The arch over the windshield is too low, giving the car a sort of Neanderthal look. Which is odd, because the entire car looks too small, compared to the gigantic >1/32, <1/30 Fly Classics I am used to looking at. Width is just 2.23" over the fenders at the rear.
It's an Ocar resin body, which I think is "based" on the Racer body, mostly because it seems a bit big like the Racer. I'll have to get measurements on it tonight, but it's sitting on a Ninco Supra chassis, which only needed the wheelbase stretched a smidge. My team mate is considering entering a Racer, would this be legal if it's identical to the already approved Ocar?
