• Smells Like Team Spirit

    Great looking 4-R-Es Robert.

So next victim for decalling was the 911:

Originally I was going to do it up in a Brumos livery, but changed my mind since the 936 was a Martini car. I figured the 911 should have the same sponsorship. Many hours later:

It's definitely a fantasy livery as I've never seen a 911 in this livery. I think the decal set was intended for a 935, though Pattos has it listed as being for either a 935 or 936.

Tomorrow I'll reassemble the 911's body and then Futurize both cars.

      • Those cars look great, Dr. V, but I have a warning to consider. If you have not used Future on a white car, it will go yellow to some extent. I like Future and use it on most of my cars, except the white ones. I spray clear coat (Testor's, I think) on the white ones. Just an FYI, do what you want.

        • On the other hand ...

... none of my WCR Proxy cars (a Venturi from last year and three Porsches this year) seem inclined to yellow at all, though all are covered in the stuff.

Maybe it's just clean living ... or something.

          • Thanks for the warning r.e. Future and white. I was wondering about it myself. I'll probably use Krylon clear on this pair.

            • How many coats did you use, Wet?

I use mostly Krylon colors, but don't like the clear, I just can't get a good finish with it.

              • Getting Futuristic

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and give some type of car wax a shot. I'm sure there are automotive finishes that are acrylic products that don't discolour the paint underneath. I have a bit more detail painting to do before I coat both cars with that Future-y shine.

About three, it's laid on pretty thick. But then at times, I can lay it on pretty thick you know?

I don't profess to know much about this stuff, but would be nervous using wax; isn't it essentially a cutting agent? Could play hell with your decals, I'm thinking. Keeping in mind that while I don't necessarily know what I'm talking about, but Robert Schleicher might, his recipe for completing the Viper on the cover of Issue #29 included at least one application of Testor's GlossCote, then after it had dried completely the Future acrylic covering.

                    • Gpr 2007

Last night I sprayed a test panel with Tamiya Lacquer. To put it bluntly, I'm not impressed with the way the color turned out. I'm going back to what I know best.....automotive paints and the airbrush. I picked up 4 colors from the shop and 5 different dry pearls to hopefully achieve something unique. I'm planning a two-tone paint job similar to a certain 917 "Gulf" car and a "Woodstock" type livery. I have no idea if the automotive clear will attack the Pattos decals, so I'm going to spray a test panel tomorrow. I'm wondering if the Future floor wax will make the base coat shine enough to eliminate having to use an automotive clearcoat? I'll find out soon enough.
This car may be too show worthy to enter in a proxy.

                      • The schedule is being written up now. The cars are due in scrutineering around Thanksgiving, or earlier if you can get them here; time trials begin almost immediately, and the first race is around Christmas.

We will be posting a full schedule, shipping info, etc. very soon.

This is just a wild guess, of course. Not sure where I came up with it:
                          GPR Deadline: function calcage(secs, num1, num2) { s = ((Math.floor(secs/num1))%num2).toString(); if (s.length < 2) s = "0" + s; return "" + s + "";}function CountBack(secs) { if (secs < 0) { document.getElementById("cntdwn").innerHTML = FinishMessage; return; } DisplayStr = DisplayFormat.replace(/%%D%%/g, calcage(secs,86400,100000)); DisplayStr = DisplayStr.replace(/%%H%%/g, calcage(secs,3600,24)); DisplayStr = DisplayStr.replace(/%%M%%/g, calcage(secs,60,60)); DisplayStr = DisplayStr.replace(/%%S%%/g, calcage(secs,1,60)); document.getElementById("cntdwn").innerHTML = DisplayStr; if (CountActive) setTimeout("CountBack(" + (secs+CountStepper) + ")", SetTimeOutPeriod);}function putspan(backcolor, forecolor) { document.write("");}if (typeof(BackColor)=="undefined") BackColor = "#ffffff";if (typeof(ForeColor)=="undefined") ForeColor= "#3E5C92";if (typeof(TargetDate)=="undefined") TargetDate = "11/23/2006 11:17 PM";if (typeof(DisplayFormat)=="undefined") DisplayFormat = "%%D%% Days, %%H%% Hrs, %%M%% Mins, %%S%% Secs";if (typeof(CountActive)=="undefined") CountActive = true;if (typeof(FinishMessage)=="undefined") FinishMessage = "It's time to race!";if (typeof(CountStepper)!="number") CountStepper = -1;CountStepper = Math.ceil(CountStepper);if (CountStepper == 0) CountActive = false;var SetTimeOutPeriod = (Math.abs(CountStepper)-1)*1000 + 990;putspan(BackColor, ForeColor);var dthen = new Date(TargetDate);var dnow = new Date();if(CountStepper>0) ddiff = new Date(dnow-dthen);else ddiff = new Date(dthen-dnow);gsecs = Math.floor(ddiff.valueOf()/1000);CountBack(gsecs);59 Days, 04 Hrs, 55 Mins, 16 Secs

Now I am going to curl up in a little ball with a bottle of Advil and a bottle of rum to wash it down with.
