    • Weathering revisited.

The best way to do this on a 1/32 model is to use a mix of airbrush, dry-brush, and maybe spatters from a toothbrush. The type of paint used is not important, but weathering should not appear to have been applied with an airbrush or a brush. Dry powders are best used on flat, non-reflective surfaces such as military and railroad equipment, or buildings. Dry powders tend to disappear if oversprayed with clear flat paint.
I used dry powder on the 917 and it looks great now. My first attempt at shiny weathering looked good but seemed fake. My LHS recommended using Floquil (clear/flat) to seal the powder to prevent it from rubbing off from handling. Has anyone used Floquil to do this? My LHS says Floquil can be brushed on or sprayed. I thought about brushing it on but was concerned about the brush marks.

      • I use flat varnish on a lot of my cars if I want to loose a bit of shine, they look more like race cars than museum cars.

I've used the Floquil "figure flat" clear spray to knock the shine off of chrome wheels to make them look like aluminum and it works VERY well for that. I've not been brave enough to try a whole body with it, but my concern is it would be a little TOO flat unless you were modeling something really old.

                              • I don't mean to be partisan, since I am one of the organizers of the GPR, but I can say that Ferrari had at least one excuse for their second-best performance compared to Porsche, in the GPR years and classes. They were simultaneously running a fairly successful F1 campaign with the Prototype Sports effort, and resources were stretched thin. If you look back over Porsche's F1 record, there is no comparison to Ferrari.
