I may end up losing 100+ pages about RAA '05, including race results and side issues, with pics, as well as the 45+ pages of RAA '06 results and pics I have compiled. Not to mention all my motor test data
Trebor --
Let me know if you need any of that info -- I have quite a bit of it...
Trebor, Maybe when you get your computer back a quick "back-up" disc should be burned of all info, no? Did you ask the MacGeniuses to do a data back-up?
The cars are safe and sound at The Coffin. News, photos, and idle gossip to follow. Giving the cars a quick shakedown before qualifying commences Friday. GTS racing Saturday, and LMP Sunday.
You guys should be proud of the cars that you've all built. Kudos to Austin for masterminding this amazing contest of car construction, speed, and cooperation between geographically distant toy car devotees.
A great road trip to ACE, and a good time racing when we got there.
Yellowdog was kind enough to lend me his best NASCAR for the race.
This is my kind of livery! I'm going to have to do one of these up.
After the race, it was time to ring in our purchases, then load the cars into the trunk of my mighty Jetta.
The cars got unboxed as soon as we got back to Reckless' place.
In the course of testing the cars, we managed to dislodge this piece of adhesive backed lead.
If this looks like it fell off your car, then let us know and we'll stick it back on.
We ran a bunch of the cars tonight just to get the voltage right. The highlight of the evening was this LMP car entered by Bill Pederson:
Reckless' car was the first LMP I could get to lap The Coffin under 6 seconds. This MG/Lola was the second to do so, and was even faster than Reckless' car!
Smokeio's Audi is a work of slot car art!
One of the faster GTS cars. Right there with Dave Kennedy's Porsche.
This is going to be interesting!
I'll be posting a variety of photos in this gallery over the coming week so check them out periodically.
I'd like to report that my DrVanski Racing Porsche 956 received a new set of tires. The DrVanski Racing BMW M1 will be getting remotored prior to Friday's qualifying as well, as its Slot.it black can is a dud. Let me know what the penalty will be for this, Austin.
Thanks for the kind words and great pictures of Ace Doc. If you go over to the race events page you will see that the good Dr.V took a 3rd in only his second race at Ace.

A plastic coffin? Must be a Canadian thing, eh? That track looks good, even better with the track lights on at night. I may have to drive my green machine up to ya.
I think I recognize the piece of lead from Tech Inspection. Austin's Dome Judd LMP had sheets like that stuck inside the body sidewalls, a big one and a little one on each side. Since Austin's car had no chassis side pans, the lead falls out if it becomes detached. However, when the cars were at Dickie's, Austin put a different chassis under the car due to guide problems, so maybe the new chassis has side pans in its current iteration. The S-curve in the lead will follow the curve of the Dome Judd body side, I'll bet.

Let us know if you're serious about driving up. You could join us for qualifying!
Yikes, my mistress just informed me the Canada trip to play with slot cars isn't going to happen. I think I'll be next day airing my car to you as soon as my parts show up.
Hey, the return address is clearly marked on the box!! Those cars were supposed to come back here!!!
Well, it looks like you won't be sending them back anytime soon. But it does look like you guys are off a good start and having a blast! That's how it should be. Have fun!!
For those who are interested, here's how we'll be running this round of the RAAce at The Coffin:
Qualifying will consist of sprint races. There will be three drivers: Chris Walker has agreed to join Eric and myself for this session. Each driver will have the opportunity to race each car on each lane for a short sprint. The results of the sprint will be used to seed the cars in their respective feature races. The goal is to have cars of similar speeds race together. All cars will be raced, not sent out for solo laps, so to have cars of similar performance for each race will make for closer contests between the drivers involved.
Saturday the GTS cars will race. Chris Walker and Alfonso Rev will join us for the lead sled contest. Again, each driver will run each car on each lane. "Offs" will be marshaled. Easy-to-drive cars will be rewarded.
Sunday the LMP cars will race. Triggerhappy has agreed to race the mag rockets with Reckless and I. Each driver will run each car on each lane of The Coffin.
When the Ortmann dust settles, the total distance that each car covered over the course of qualifying and racing will be used to determine the final result. Between qualifying and racing each car will have raced for the requisite 15 minutes.
I'll attempt to post results at the end of each session of racing, and possibly whenever we break. A hot lap around The Coffin is 10ish seconds for lead sleds, and sub-6 for mag monsters. Tentative voltage settings are 13V for GTS, 15V for LMP.
The total distance that each car covered over the course of qualifying and racing will be used to determine the final result. Between qualifying and racing each car will have raced for the requisite 15 minutes.
That's clever. Everybody who is as obsessed with this as I am will get their fix from tracking the qualifying times whenever you're able to post them, while the task of completing the minimal 15 minutes of fame and flame will be completed with enough time for the occasional brewski between heats.
Any idea of how long the qualifying sessions will run, compared to the race time?
Oh, do please try to avoid any real time conflicts with events in Bahrain, eh?
