If a manufacturer wants to sponsor and provide free tires, yes, but to require racers to buy a certain tire mfg doesn't work for me...Let all of the rubber in or keep it the way that it is....

                  "any rubber or urethane tire"

I'm a little late to this discussion but IMO switching from sillies to any rubber or urethane tire is a GOOD idea and I would think bring more folks and tracks into this GREAT long running proxy....and truing tires, especially silicone ones, is my least favorite thing to do in car prep !!

Like I said just my 2cents

We will be using urethane tires only for next year no sillies or rubber.

I would anticipate that you may now see a few more (or a least different) entries...

I may even be one of those....

                      Cheers, Tony.

Shoreline Model Raceways has hosted races for proxies using rubber, silicone and urethane tires with no problems. No matter what you normally run the track can be conditioned to work well with any sort of tire, it is just a matter of knowing the characteristics of each type. Once the track has been conditioned you have to avoid running other types of tires until the proxy racing is over. At that point it is likely that you would have to condition the track for the tires that you normally run.
Whenever a proxy series switches the type of tires that are being used some of the regulars may not be willing to go to the bother, so while you will pick up some new participants you are likely to loose at least a few others.

What is the problem with gray dust Ortmanns? BTW both types of tires run well at LMS without a lot of special preparation ...

As far as I know, no one has ever developed urethane tires that are as fast as the old gray dust Ortmanns. They have not been made in some time, due to the fact that they used a chemical that was later listed as an environmental hazard in Germany.

The major urethane tires manufacturers are Paul Gage and Yellow Dogs. They are also made by Art at D'Art Hobbie, Luf (oldslotracer) and others.
