  • SPR 2014 - Prize Parade

The racing is over, the congratulations and thank you's have been made and only the spoils of victory remain to be doled out!

Because this race isn't just for the winners, we try to spread our donated prizes to everyone who made it a race. We hope entrants find that just building a raceable car of this small size is rewarding and the actual prizes are a bonus.

Our prizes have come from Paul Gage, Dart/BWA, Munter and generous fellow racers Doubl-B and VTEC - who both donated classic Mini's - and Mike Newns who sent along some nice aluminum pens. Their generosity and enthusiasm for this series is a testament to their general support of the hobby.

Ok fellow racers, it's time to start awarding prizes!

As we did last year, we are awarding our largest prize by a random draw. VTEC and I, as organizers, have recused ourselves. Heck VTEC even donated one of the prizes. And that's the news, we have two, identical No. 177 Scalextric classic Minis!, one for HP and one for SPX. Just for complete transparency, we made out our chits:

Then we looked for even more transparency - and found the Waterford crystal candy jar empty. Okay, that'll work.

We then pulled names and the winner was the first name to be drawn twice.

    And the first winner is....

    In the next post!

After about half the names had been pulled, we had our first, double pull...

      Phil Kalbfell!

Phil was one of five racers who built cars for both categories. As a matter of fact, I think Phil would have won a combined HP / SPX award! He finished a 1 point second to Doubl-B in HP and was fifth in SPX. I think that just beats Charles X WO co-won in SPX, but was seventh in HP.

So congrats Phil, and thanks for joining us in this series!

We followed the same process for the names in HP. We pulled quite a number of names before we had another Antipodean winner!

Good on ya, mate (that supposedly means congratulations in Antipodean)!

CharlesX was another new participant this year who really kept our threads alive with his enthusiasm and analysis. As noted above, he was a likely close second to Phil in a combined score for the series, a testament to his building and tuning skills.

Thanks a gain for joining us Charles!

          Hi JT.

As you say it was just a pleasure to build the cars and participate in such a great event. Not too sure how that voting worked but perhaps it is the people at the other end of the field who need the encouragement. In HP I suppose that includes me.

I know I can be a little trying at times so thanks everybody for your patience and understanding. I tend to talk to much and that tends to spill over into my emails.

Looking forward to getting my cars back soon. Currently busy building a Group 5 Capri for NZ Group 5 Proxy so that is keeping me quiet in the meantime. Friend Phil from Tassie has kindly made me some great decals so thanks for your encouragement Phil.

          Regards

          Chas Le Breton

Thank the generous sponsors very much. I never enter Proxy races for prizes so this s a very nice surprise.
If this event continues next year I will certainly be back.
              Thanks to all.

Charles and Phil - Your welcome, glad to allocate some unexpected swag. And thanks to Brain's pledge for next year's mystery series - Brain's 3D printed, CAD designed pod put him on the SPX podium. I hear he has even more CAD designed products in the pipeline....

We've got even more prizes to dole out...

And I just received a Canada Post confirmation that a bundle of Dart /BWA parts is working its way south and east as we speak! International shipping estimates are hard to come by, but we will check our tracking numbers to keep folks informed. If you would like to have your car returned sooner, please PM me.

I'm preparing to send cars back early next week and would like to confirm addresses. If you were in last year's event, I have your address - unless you moved! - but if you are a new competitor, please PM me to confirm. That's Phil, Charles, and Black3sr. T hanks guys.

That folks, is a pile of prizes!

Just received this package from Art at D'Art. We used some excess funds from the proxy to purchase many of these (and a few are parts I ordered for my use) but Art significantly supplemented the order!

Thanks Art for such support of the hobby!

We've got motors, hubs, tires, inserts, gears, mounting screws, detail parts like driver heads, steering wheels, torsos, mirrors, New interior trays and even a transaxle detail. Fire extinguishers and more. I intend to make mini packages of detail parts. I'm really excited about Dart's expanding range of detail parts.

So everyone should get at least one motor and some other parts. If you have a preference, PM me your three preferred items and we'll try and dole them out in descending finishing order (NC1 motor, rims, detail pack for instance). We also have the Paul Gage tires!

Once again, I'd like to thank our sponsors, hosts and co organizer VTEC and Retro for scoring and receiving all the cars!

Ok, prizes have been assigned and bagged, boxes are packed up and label "goods returning to sender" with a printed note about the SPR participation. Addresses are loaded into USPS software and I was able to get one domestic label printed before the site started rejecting my international labels...deja vu all over again! The site says it will be down later tonight, maybe they are starting early. I'll give it a try later midweek, I have obligations the next few days.

I suggest you take the Canadian ones to a real post office. Last time you did it online we ended up paying duty because the declaration followed one of their set forms instead of what you wanted it to say.

Thanks for all your effort on this. I know, you love being the finish point of a proxy.

Being the starting point was fun!

                          You can tell, can't you?!

When I dropped off Bob B's shipment at the regional post office early this AM, I picked up a bunch of manual forms, so maybe I'll just do them up old skool.

I'm not sure why the Click n Ship online caused some duties, maybe because it looked like a business sent it? I'd write the same thing on manual forms, except when I forget to...

Hit the regional post office this morning with the British and Canadian returns. Manual customs forms...

Each box had all sorts of references to "returned goods"!

I got to know my new friend Charlie while he hand entered the info for five packages. I love hanging out at the post office !

Good to see its my box on the scale. I will look forward to it arriving. If you can pm me a tracking number, I can see where it is and know when to expect it.

                              Thanks,
