  • U13 2015 - Round 8 - Burnaby Grind Hillclimb - Results are in!

Qualified the cars on Luf's flip side track, the infamous Burnaby Grind Hillclimb with those purposely intrusive rock faces, the bane of wide cars.

The fastest lap qualifying results are:

    U class (11)
    1. 177 Austin Mini, red - 21.28 seconds - fast and handled corners well, what a surprise on those little tires and relatively high body!
    2. 45 Alfa Guilietta, red - 21.32 - very driveable and gained especially in the lower twisties
    3. 72 Bugeye Sprite, blue - 21.77 - smooth and fast
    4. 36 Toyota S800, yellow - 21.95 - smooth and driveable
    5. 15 Honda 800, red - 22.47 - another enjoyable smoothie
    6. 95 Fiat 850, white - 23.09 - good driver but more traction would have helped
    7. 7 Trabant , yellow - 23.22 - smooth but low on power
    8. 13 Triumph Spitfire, white - 23.93 - lots of body lean but drives well
    9. 5 Austin Mini, red - 24.52 - low on power, handled well
    10. 2 Austin Mini, blue - 25.44 - motor weak, good handling
    11. 23 Fiat Abarth, silver - 34.86 - just slid and slid, no tire grip

    Ux class (12)
    1. 79 Lotus Elite, red - 18.72 - fast and stuck down, under 19 is a fantastic lap for any car on the Grind
    2. 63 Bugeye Sprite, graffitti - 19.86 - great driver
    3. 44 Alfa Guilietta, red - 19.94 - fast and a corner master like the sister 45 U class car
    4. 72 Bugeye Sprite, blue - 20.32 - smooth
    5. 8 Austin Mini, green - 20.74 - easy to drive
    6. 162 NSU TT, yellow - 21.08 - average speed but somehow managed a decent run
    7. 5 Honda 360, blue - 21.12 - wow, what speed, requires careful throttle
    8. 11 Trabant, black - 21.25 - seems low on power but cornered well
    9. 33 Hillman Imp, silver - 21.52 - solid feeling but down on acceleration compared to others
    10. 31 Lotus 7, red - 22.24 - decent driver
    11. 22 Austin Mini, yellow - 22.54 - chattered in corners searching for traction
    12. 4 Fiat 850, red - 26.64 - searching for traction

As on the Targa Burnaby road course, these cars were a joy to drive. Not surprising that most of the Ux cars weren't significantly faster than the better performing stock class cars.

    Well done everyone.

Race results will follow Targa Burnaby's run tomorrow.

    Stay tuned!

    Dan

Great driving Dan!! I don't think I've ever been in the 18's on the Luf's Hillclimb.

      TF:

The driving credit goes to Luf as he qualified all the cars. I think this was his first time under 20 and he did it with three different cars!

Your 79 is wide as are others but Luf didn't flinch one bit and went for it.

These were the only cars to record a sub 20 second run, quite an achievement on this track. Number 79 recorded an astonishing 18.72 run, not far off the track record held by a NSR Ford GT40!

Here are a few shots of cars in action.

Thanks to Luf for qualifying the cars. Congratulations to all for cars builds particularly suited to this hillclimb.

On to the next track, Perry's Rocket, likely this Friday.

          Stay tuned.

              Hi Dan,

Thanks for the update on the driver of my Elite. After the Hillclimb did Luf have to submit a urine test?

Great report Dan! Thanks also to Luf (and your entire crew) for providing such a unique track to race on!

Special congrats to TF for his near record-breaking Elite! Who says small isn't fast!? Both Retro and Brain had a car in the top three (Brian atop the podium in U! Great to see after previous year's 4wd car got close), each a model of consistency.

That 177 proving to be the RTR that could!
