  • U13 2015 - Round 10 - Dougtona - Results are in!

Ran this afternoon on Dougtona, another fast three-lane track tucked into a converted garage.

There are lots of straightaways and an extreme banked curve over an average 62.5 foot lane length.

The cumulative three lane run results are,

    U class (11)
    1. 7 Trabant , yellow - 58.6 laps
    2. 45 Alfa Guilietta, red - 58.2
    3. 13 Triumph Spitfire, white - 55.9
    4. 72 Bugeye Sprite, blue and 177 Austin Mini, red - 54.3
    6. 2 Austin Mini, blue - 54.0
    7. 36 Toyota S800, yellow - 53.7
    8. 5 Austin Mini, red - 53.1
    9. 23 Fiat Abarth, silver - 52.0
    10. 15 Honda 800, red - 51.1
    11. 95 Fiat 850, white - 50.1

    Congratulations to:

    - 7 Trabant , yellow
    - 45 Alfa Guilietta, red
    - 13 Triumph Spitfire, white

The Trabant takes it after a long absence and the Spitfire makes the podium for the first time.

And for Ux modified class, the results are,

    Ux class (12)
    1. 79 Lotus Elite, red - 64.5 laps
    2. 44 Alfa Guilietta, red - 62.3
    3. 8 Austin Mini, green - 59.5
    4. 33 Hillman Imp, silver and 11 Trabant, black - 58.8
    6. 31 Lotus 7, red - 58.3
    7. 63 Bugeye Sprite, graffitti - 58.0
    8. 22 Austin Mini, yellow - 56.4
    9. 5 Honda 360, blue - 56.3
    10. 162 NSU TT, yellow - 52.8
    11. 4 Fiat 850, red - 52.7
    12. 72 Bugeye Sprite, blue - 52.6

Well done to some familiar cars.

    - 79 Lotus Elite, red
    - 44 Alfa Guilietta, red
    - 8 Austin Mini, green

Unfortunately, some cars did not like this track at all with many offs. We also had a casualty with the 63 Bugeye's front guide tongue breaking off its one-off guide/axle mount. Not sure if we can fix it as it has a unique design and it won't change the standings much as there's only one race remaining. We'll have a closer look.

    And for some parting shots.

Thanks to drivers Luf (oldslotracer), Keith (retro racer 44) and Doug (fotodoug) especially, our track host for his great hospitality.

One track to go, Don's Attic, probably next Monday.

ah....that is a wild track and some shake ups in the standings. Congrats to fellow NE DoublB for his 1st in U13. On my #63 UX13 car...with the broken guide mount, any chance to get some super glue on that? I know it was a weak point in the construction...and I am mid pack in the UX13 mix so it really won't affect me for any podium finish even if it doesn't get fixed. Thanks for hosting and racing....One to go!

I would suggest if you glue it to afterwards drill two small holes, front to back, and add a pin across the joint to reinforce it! Just a suggestion! Hard to evaluate without having it in hand!

          mether,

Yeah, your car for some reason was difficult for the drivers on this track. There's a good number of off camber corners and other bits that didn't agree with the #15 which I know is a super smooth runner.

          BRAIN,

The break on the guide tongue is right under the front axle. I've made a super glue fix to position it and will return with two-part epoxy to reinforce a small void on the underside. Fingers crossed on surviving the last venue, the twisty Don's Attic track.

This was actually the second breakdown out here. The Ux 72 Bugeye's guide post snapped right off at the base but a quick repair with a replacement kept us going on Luf's Targa Burnaby without delay.

Curious what happened to my 72UX? Any comments? Thanks

Darn that 177 Mini tied me in U. Way to go Dale.

              Black3sr,

Your Ux 72 Bugeye is smooth and straightaway fast but had troubles on some tight corners. So much so for one driver who came off quite often. Another driver commented on lack of brakes compared to the other cars.

Thanks Dan and crew, that is a cool track in a neat location (some, ahem, distractions on the wall too - Bob, that might have caused a distraction right before an off camber corner!). Good to see some mixing up in the results! Thanks for your attention to the repairs, overall these little buggers have been pretty durable (knocks on wood!).

Just a very small item, but in the second pic (of the first post), note that fotodoug had all the cameras lined up in case there was a photo finish.
